Metadata Scrubber

Remove hidden data from photos, PDFs, Office files and MP3s in one batch: GPS, camera, author, company and more.

Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.

How Metadata Scrubber works

Everything happens in your browser with the Web Crypto API and plain JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, so the files and passwords never leave this device. Photos are cleaned at the byte level without re-compressing, PDFs lose their info dictionary and XMP stream, Office files get blank document properties, and MP3s lose ID3 tags.

Input: JPG, PNG, WEBP, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, ODT, MP3. Output: Same as input, ZIP.

How to use Metadata Scrubber

  1. Drop files of any supported type.
  2. Choose whether to keep colour profiles and anonymise Office comment authors.
  3. Press Clean, then read what was removed for each file.
  4. Download files one by one or all as a ZIP.

Tips

  • Chat apps often keep GPS in photos sent as files. Clean them first.

Metadata Scrubber FAQ

Are my files uploaded?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
