Layer Image Editor
Edit images with layers in your browser: blend modes, opacity, move, scale and rotate, text, shapes, brush, eraser, crop, filters, undo and redo.
Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.
How Layer Image Editor works
Each layer is kept separately in memory: images and paint layers as pixels, text and shapes as editable objects. The canvas is redrawn from bottom to top with each layer's position, scale, rotation, opacity and blend mode, using the browser's 2D canvas. Undo and redo keep the last 40 steps. PSD files are opened and saved with ag-psd (MIT). Projects save as a JSON file that keeps every layer editable.
Input: JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, PSD, JSON. Output: PNG, JPG, WEBP, PSD, JSON.
How to use Layer Image Editor
- Drop one or more images (each becomes a layer), a PSD or a saved project, or start with a blank canvas.
- Pick a tool: move, brush, eraser, text, shape or crop.
- Use the Layers panel to reorder, hide, lock, merge and change opacity or blend mode.
- Export a PNG, JPG or WEBP, or save the project to keep editing later.
Tips
- Keyboard: V move, B brush, E eraser, T text, U shape, C crop, Ctrl+Z undo, Ctrl+Shift+Z redo, Ctrl+D duplicate, Delete removes a layer, arrows nudge.
- Hold Shift while scaling for free scale, and while rotating to snap to 15 degrees.
- Text and shapes stay editable. Use "Turn into pixels" before painting or filtering them.
Layer Image Editor FAQ
- Is my file uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in this browser tab on your own device. Engines are downloaded once and cached, but your files never leave your computer.
- Can I keep working on a design later?
- Yes. Save project downloads a .layers.json file with every layer. Drop it here again to continue.
- Does PSD export keep text editable?
- No. Text and shapes are saved as pixel layers in the PSD. Layer names, order, visibility, opacity and blend modes are kept.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
- Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
- Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
