Remove Silence

Cut silent parts and long pauses from audio or video automatically (jump cuts).

Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.

How Remove Silence works

The sound is processed by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, running in your browser. The engine (about 30 MB) downloads the first time and is cached after that, so nothing is ever uploaded. A first pass finds silences with silencedetect, then the quiet parts are cut out of both sound and picture.

Input: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, MP4, MOV, WEBM. Output: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, MP4, MOV, WEBM.

How to use Remove Silence

  1. Drop a recording or video.
  2. Set the threshold and the shortest pause to cut.
  3. Remove silence and download.

Tips

  • Keep 0.1 to 0.2 seconds at each cut so speech still sounds natural.

Remove Silence FAQ

Are my files uploaded?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
