Create Archive
Pack files and folders into ZIP (with AES-256 password), 7Z, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.XZ, TAR.BZ2 or TAR.ZST.
Free, no uploads, no sign-up. Runs 100% in your browser.
How Create Archive works
Archives are opened and packed by 7-Zip compiled to WebAssembly (7z-wasm, LGPL-2.1 with the unRAR licence restriction). It is a separate engine file of about 1.6 MB that your browser downloads once and caches, and it runs in a background thread so the page stays responsive. Gzip and Zstandard layers for TAR use fflate and zstd-wasm.
Input: Any files, Folders. Output: ZIP, 7Z, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.XZ, TAR.BZ2, TAR.ZST.
How to use Create Archive
- Drop files, or choose a whole folder.
- Pick a format and compression level.
- Optionally set a password (ZIP or 7Z).
- Create the archive and download it.
Tips
- ZIP opens on every computer. 7Z is usually the smallest.
- With a 7Z password you can also hide the file names.
Create Archive FAQ
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. This tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Files are read from your disk into memory and the result is generated locally.
- Is it free? Are there limits or watermarks?
- Free and open source (MIT). There are no file-size caps, daily quotas, accounts or watermarks.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes, once the page (and any engine it needs) has loaded, it keeps working without a connection thanks to the service worker cache.
